Financial Aid > Tax Return "Conversion" Table for 2009-2010 FAFSA

This table will allow you to complete the 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid ("FAFSA") when you do not have a completed 2008 federal income tax return available to you.

When you get to the question which ask, "Have you completed your income tax return?" you will answer "I will file..."  From that point forward you simply provide your best estimate of all figures for 2008 -- what you believe your tax return will show.

FAFSA questions that are related to income will tell you where to find the answers, by giving the line number from the 2008 tax forms.  When a 2008 tax form is not available you may begin with the 2007  tax return and/or W-2 information you have.  Since the line references of the tax returns change each year, you must use the table below to identify the correct lines from the 2007 return.

Important !  While you may begin with the 2007 tax return as the basis for your application, you must still make reasonable estimates for known increases or decreases in work income, earnings from investments, net business or rental income, etc.  Do not use any line other than those shown.

Using the Table:  Find the requested item on the left side.  Locate the type of return you filed at the top, and follow the column to find the corresponding line number.

If you have questions about using the table, please contact Mark Anderson, Associate Director (847-735-5010 or 800-828-4751 or E-mail).
