Planning Your Visit
"Storybook beautiful" is the phrase one college guide used to describe Lake Forest College. Our students agree. However, your college experience will depend on more than a picture-perfect campus and a great choice of courses. Here, your experience will be influenced by the students you meet from all parts of the country and the world, the friends you make, the availability of your professors, the accessibility to Chicago and all its wonders, the extracurricular choices, the safety of the campus and the surrounding community–even the food! This is all part of campus life, and it could be part of your life for the better portion of the next four years. Come find out for yourself what that would be like.
Plan Ahead
You should do and see as much as you can in the time you're here. Try to schedule your visit during any weekday (Monday through Friday), when you can have a tour led by a student volunteer tour guide, have an interview with a member of the admission staff and attend a class. Your stay may also include an appointment with a professor or a coach. Let us know what you hope to experience during your visit and we will do our very best to accommodate your requests. During the academic year the office is also open on Saturday mornings if this is the most convenient day for you to visit. We ask that you contact us at least a week before your visit .
The Campus
Lake Forest is a residential college in a suburban residential community. Its 107 acres combine open vistas and wooded ravines, where modern buildings are complemented by renovated late-19th and early-20th century architecture. It's not surprising that this classic, picturesque campus has been the setting for more than one Hollywood movie. If you would like a preview click here to take a Virtual Tour.
Many Choices
In addition to regularly scheduled interviews and campus tours, at several points throughout the year, the Admission Office hosts day-long open houses. These days are designed to offer students and their families a general introduction to Lake Forest and the college admission process. Each Campus Visit Day offers several information sessions, a campus tour, lunch and the option to choose which course to attend.
The Town of Lake Forest
Known as the safest city in Illinois, the town of Lake Forest (population: 19,000) is a 10-minute walk from the campus. Besides shops, restaurants, and other conveniences, it provides frequent train service to downtown Chicago, thirty miles away. A 10-minute walk in the opposite direction will take you to the town's beachfront park on Lake Michigan.
The City of Chicago
While you're in the area, we encourage you to visit downtown Chicago, especially if you've traveled any distance and haven't had a chance to see the city's many attractions. It's one of the world's great cities-- and almost a second campus to many Lake Forest students. You'll see why.
