Alpha Kappa Alpha
Alpha Kappa Alpha Incorporated was founded in 1908 at Howard University, Washington D.C., and is the oldest sorority founded by women of African descent. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha believe that all people should be treated with dignity, respect, and kindness. This sorority is an international organization of college and graduate women whose purpose is to encourage scholarship, friendship, and service.

Since 1908, the sisterhood of Alpha Kappa Alpha has responded to the world’s increasing complexity. It continues to empower communities through exemplary service initiatives and progressive programs.
We are excited to step to the forefront to make great strides and changes inside and outside the Sorority. In keeping with President Barbara McKinzie's ESP program, we are ready for Expansion, Success and Progress.
It is imperative that we reach out to uplift our communities…to expand the vision and dreams of success. As women of high scholastic achievement, we must also support one another in reaching for academic excellence. It is time for us to embrace the same leadership mentality as our founders.
We have work to do, and we must do it with that Talented Tenth mentality.
Our sorority has accomplished much since 1908, and yet there is still so much in the world that needs attention, including drugs, teen pregnancy, school drop out rates, HIV/AIDS…among others. As we bring ourselves into a new and wider vision, let’s make sure we carry our knowledge, tenacity and heart for service to those around us. We must equip ourselves with love, patience, courage and confidence to do the work we have been called to do.
As we uplift one another, within and outside the Sorority, we can create a burning desire for Expansion, Success and Progress. We can and will push forward to create positive change; because we can't stop, and we won't stop!
